Uses and Applications of Potassium Fulvicate

Potassium humate is a natural organic potassium fertilizer, mainly composed of fulvic acid and potassium. It has the effects of improving soil, promoting plant growth, enhancing stress resistance, and increasing fertilizer utilization. When using it, the concentration and method should be adjusted according to the crop type and soil conditions to avoid overuse.

Uses and Applications of Potassium Fulvicate

Functions and Effects of Potassium Humate:

1. Enhancing Plant Stress Resistance

Crop stress resistance refers to its ability to resist adverse factors, such as resistance to diseases and pes  ts, drought, lodging, cold (heat), and continuous cropping. This is because potassium humate can buffer the adverse effects of soil, water, temperature, and light, overcoming unfavorable factors and continuously delivering sufficient nutrients to the plant, resulting in robust plant growth and enhanced stress resistance. This manifests as a reduction in the incidence of diseases and pests, resistance to frost damage, less lodging, and ultimately, increased yield and superior quality of agricultural products.

2. Soil Improvement

Applying potassium humate fertilizer to the soil forms a gel-like substance that binds soil particles together, increasing water-stable aggregates and improving the soil’s water, fertilizer, air, and heat conditions. This makes the soil loose and breathable, enhancing its ability to retain water and nutrients, thus improving soil fertility. The effect is particularly noticeable in improving clay soils and saline-alkali soils.

By applying potassium humate, the soil’s organic matter content increases, providing an excellent environment for beneficial microorganisms. These beneficial microorganisms gradually become dominant, inhibiting the development and growth of harmful pathogens. Furthermore, plants growing in improved soil have enhanced disease resistance, reducing the occurrence of pests and diseases. Therefore, potassium humate is also an ideal fertilizer for activating soil and eliminating diseases caused by continuous cropping.

3. Enhanced Fertilizer Efficiency

Potassium humate has nitrogen-fixing, phosphorus-solubilizing, and potassium-activating effects. This is because potassium humate can adsorb, exchange, and activate many mineral elements in the soil, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and magnesium, greatly increasing the availability of these elements, reducing the impact of chemical fertilizers on the soil’s physical and chemical properties, and thus improving soil fertility. It can reduce nitrogen volatilization in the soil, especially prolonging the effect of urea. Its synergistic effect on phosphate fertilizers is manifested in reducing soil fixation of phosphorus, acting as a phosphorus release agent, converting insoluble phosphorus in the soil into available phosphorus, increasing the available phosphorus content in the soil, and improving the utilization rate of phosphate fertilizers. Its synergistic effect on potassium fertilizers in the soil is mainly manifested in reducing the absorption and fixation of potassium in the soil, making insoluble potassium more active and converting it into nutrients that can be absorbed by the roots. This increases the utilization rate of potassium fertilizers, resulting in more vigorous plant growth.

Application methods of potassium humate:

1. Foliar spray: Dilute 800-1500 times, avoid high temperature and strong sunlight periods, spray once every 10-15 days.

2. Root irrigation or drip irrigation: Dilute 300-500 times, use 5-10 kg per acre, suitable for peak potassium demand periods in the mid-growth stage (such as flowering and fruit setting).

3. Base fertilizer/topdressing: Mix with other fertilizers and apply in furrows or holes, use 10-20 kg per acre, reduce the amount appropriately for sandy soils.

Uses and Applications of Potassium Fulvicate

Precautions for potassium humate:

1. It cannot replace conventional fertilizers, it is only a fertilizer “synergist,” and should be used in combination with conventional fertilizers. However, it cannot be mixed with acidic fertilizers.

2. It cannot be used during the flowering period of crops, it should be used as base fertilizer, or during the seedling stage and fruit enlargement stage. When used as topdressing, it should be applied in small amounts and frequently to avoid burning seedlings.

3. When using compound fertilizers, prepare and use immediately, and do not leave the mixture unused for more than 12 hours after preparation.

4. For foliar spraying, it should be diluted twice, first to prepare a stock solution and then dilute with water to prevent leaf burn. Prepare the stock solution and use it immediately. Do not expose it to high temperatures and direct sunlight; store it in a cool, shaded place. If it rains within 24 hours of application, re-spray.

5. When mixing with other micronutrients or pesticides, pay attention to the concentration and pH. Potassium humate is an alkaline substance and should not be mixed with acidic substances.

Potassium humate is widely used in fruits and vegetables (such as tomatoes and grapes), grain crops (rice and wheat), and cash crops (cotton and tea). It can be used from the seedling stage to harvest, but the concentration needs to be adjusted according to the growth stage.

Rational use of potassium humate can reduce the amount of chemical fertilizer used and improve soil health. Long-term application yields more significant results. It is recommended to develop a specific plan based on soil testing results.
